LAMusArt’s fifth annual Playmaking performance will return live for 2 nights only, with eight student playwrights premiering their original plays. The performance features 8 student-written works, ranging from family dramas to broad comedies to fantastical adventures. Through the magic of theater, up-and-coming young playwrights and professional actors bring their stories to life in a dazzling night of entertainment.

For five girls living in gritty east L.A., growing up takes place in a world where parents refuse to speak ingles, girls in magazines never resemble the girl in the mirror, and boys only want to get some other girl's number. Told through monologues, vignettes, and poetic interludes, Black Butterfly, Jaguar Girl, Pinata Woman and Other Superhero Girls, Like Me gives an honest and compelling voice to the painful, wistful, and amusing experiences of their urban adolescence.

Witness the Chicanas Gitanas perform, a dance group that was founded in 1998 who aims to embrace being both Chicanas and Flamencas. Their moving modern day flamenco now includes classical guitar and a mix of percussion rhythms achieved by the tabla, or wooden dance floor, and palmas. This East LA-based dance company seduces with a unique mix of music, rhythmic poetry and dance.
