LAPCA Youth Orchestra seeks players!

The LAPCA Youth Orchestra, based at the Los Angeles Music and Art School(lamusart.org) is seeking new players. We are a 5-year old full orchestra and have performed already at the Hollywood Bowl, Disney Hall, and the Broad Stage. Currently, we number approximately 45 players including strings, winds, brass, full percussion, and piano. Our players range in age from 12-22 and in level from early intermediate to advanced. We are seeking all instrument types, but especially cellos, bassists, french horns, double-reeds, and violas. While we work on classical music from all eras (Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and 20th Century), we enjoy a steady diet of film music. We have just been performing medley’s from “Pirates of the Caribbean” and “Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back”. Other repertoire we have performed is: Bach Brandenburg Concerto #3(original version), Pachelbel Canon (original), Medley from Harry Potter, Bizet Carmen Suite #1, Grieg Peer Gynt Suite #1 and #2, percussion ensemble repertoire.

Tuition is FREE and we have some instruments to loan out! We rehearse every Saturday from 4-6pm at the LA Music and Art School (www.lamusart.org). We have excellent sectional coaches (strings, brass, winds, percussion) and are led by Dr. Gideon Rubin (www.gideonrubinpianist.com). Players must be beyond a beginner level (played for at least 2-3 years). To join our group, just come to the school at 3630 East Third Street on any Saturday at 4pm and sit in. If you are up to playing the music we are working on (orchestra level 3-4), then we’d love to have you! We are just starting a new program which includes Medley from Lord of the Rings and Mission Impossible theme, so now is a great time to join!

For more information, please call the school at 323-262-7734.
