On Friday, July 25th, and Saturday, July 26th, Camp MusArt brought their unforgettable rendition of Willy Wonka Jr. off-campus to Boston Court Pasadena! After five weeks of dedicated effort, artistic development, and meaningful friendships, students stunned audiences at four sold-out performances. Opening with the classic melody of “Pure Imagination,” the crowd was instantly transported into the magical, sugary world of Willy Wonka!

Each day, all forty-eight students brought their unwavering passion and creativity to camp. Through daily drama, art, music, dance, and group rehearsal lessons, these young artists directly participated in all aspects of musical theater. From hand-making props and set pieces to practicing choreography during break times, students poured their time and energy into every detail of the show.
Backstage before the final performance, emotions ran high as students huddled together in a moment of pride and excitement. Over the course of camp, students became friends, mentors, and sources of encouragement for one another. With tearful words of inspiration from leads Raymah C. (Willy Wonka) and Arisai L. (Charlie Bucket), the last show was filled with heart and joy.

Camp MusArt was only possible with the help of dedicated teachers and staff: Will Domke (Drama Director), Diamonique Bell (Choreographer and Dance Instructor), Phoebe Silva (Music Instructor), and Ruth Ferguson (Prop Master, Set Decorator, and Visual Arts Instructor). Camp MusArt was coordinated by Rosemary Brantley and assisted by LACDAC Arts Education intern, Natalee Park. Lighting and sound were assisted by Programs Manager, Marlene Grajeda.

LAMusArt would like to extend a special thanks to all parents and guardians for their support and contributions to this year’s production, especially for their generous aid in costume and prop materials. We hope to see you all next year, and remember to always “think positive!”
