Join Us for Mr. Chanu’s Final Concerts

With the introduction of new music ensemble teaching artists, LAMusArt will see current Ensembles Director, Austin Chanu, shift into a Consulting Music Director role at the end of summer as he takes a recess to complete his Master’s degree in Orchestral Conducting at Eastman School of Music in New York.

“I feel so lucky to be able to reposition myself into a Teaching Artist at large at the school because being a part of my students’ musical lives is so important to me. It’s been an honor and a pleasure to teach these young musicians for nearly five years, and I’m excited to take on this new role while I pursue my Master’s,” says Chanu.

Mr. Chanu’s Final Concerts

August 3

Experience the enchantment of renowned composers John Williams and Felix Mendelssohn at the FREE Summer Orchestra Recital on Saturday, August 3.  Don’t miss your opportunity to witness East LA’s only youth orchestra perform under the setting summer sun! This will be orchestra conductor, Austin Chanu’s final orchestral performance on the LAMusArt campus.

August 10

Witness the LAMusArt Choir prove that big personality comes in “little” packages!  We invite you to the annual FREE Summer Choir Recital on Saturday, August 10th at 6:30pm at LAMusArt.  Mr. Chanu leads his final LAMusArt full choir performance with tunes to inspire our youngest minds to be their best.  Fearless, big and bold — the choir performs “Astonishing” from Little Women and fills the courtyard floor with an audacious choral performance of “Little Shop of Horrors”!

September 8

Join us for a night of bold glitz and glamour at our 22nd annual Stars for the Arts Benefit Dinner and Concert hosted at the Hotel Indigo in Downtown Los Angeles.  The reception will be followed by a three-course dinner and concert in the Orpheum Ballroom. Under the direction of Mr. Chanu, a very special concert performance by LAMusArt student vocalists and select orchestra members will delight you.  This will mark Mr. Chanu’s final concert as he takes on his new role.

“It’s an exciting time for our Music department as we innovate and expand. We are extremely pleased to be bringing talented artists onto our team for the benefit of our students and our community.  I cannot thank Austin enough for his leadership, and I cannot wait to see what is in store for him,”  says Executive Director, Manuel Prieto.
