Frank & Julia Sanchez with LAMusArt Executive Director Isela Sotelo and Board President Efrain Fuentes.
In a corner of the sky, amidst fabulous panoramic views of Downtown Los Angeles, guests of LAMusArt’s Connect, Cultivate, Create event gathered at City National Tower’s glamorous City Club atop the 51st floor.
CEO of Cordoba Corporation, George L. Pla, hosted the evening’s hors d’oeuvres and dinner reception commemorating LAMusArt’s Circle of Friends and guests for their commitment to accessible arts education for children and youths of low-income households.
LAMusArt Executive Director, Isela Sotelo, and Board of Directors President, Efrain Fuentes, honored Circle of Friends members Frank and Julia Sanchez for their outstanding dedication, mentorship, and assistance to the school’s continued arts education initiatives.
Mr. and Mrs. Sanchez were also influential in establishing ties with esteemed guests Drs. Rafael and Robert Mendez, whose late father, Rafael Mendez, was widely renowned as a virtuoso trumpet player. Guests were treated to a preview of a video homage dedicated to Rafael Mendez’s exceptional career and educational excursions that will premiere in full at Stars for the Arts.
After the preview, Ms. Sotelo enthusiastically announced Sharyl Mendez, wife of Dr. Rafael Mendez, and Rebecca Zapanta as co-chairs for this year’s Stars for the Arts presented at the prestigious Broad Stage on September 6, 2014.
The event could not have been complete without LAMusArt students of past and present, Eli Vargas and Tiffany Cruz. Vargas, music alumni and current star of the film Cesar Chavez, spoke of his memorable experiences at LAMusArt and of his developing film career, while Cruz, fresh from her appearance at Concierto de Primavera, reprised her performance of Frozen’s “Let it Go” to the delight of guests, who marveled at her talent and young age. Pianist Peter Walsh, whose performances have included the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra and Carnegie Hall, accompanied her on keyboard.
The night was topped off with a delectable chocolate mousse dessert and an opportunity to mingle with friends old and new. If you were unable to attend our event we invite you to look at our 2012-2013 annual report and hope to see you at future events!
