Student Profile: Emma A.

Emma A., 8, has been part of LAMusArt since September 2023. She first joined at age six for Pre-Ballet, but her curiosity for music showed itself early on. “I wanted to do piano, it’s fun,” Emma says. Emma also inspired a new generation of creatives as her younger siblings and cousins have also joined LAMusArt.

Emma currently studies voice and piano and is part of the Tuition-Free Youth Choir. She has participated in Audition Workshop, CampMusArt, and has performed on stage as Nigel in Matilda Jr. and an Oompa Loompa in Willy Wonka Jr..Her favorite memory so far was, “Doing the musical. I made lots of new friends and had a ton of fun,” she says.

Her favorite teachers are Ms. Tara and Ms. Adriana. “Ms. Tara encourages me to push myself even though I kinda already know. She’s taught me A LOT of stuff, like how to play piano and sing,” Emma says. “Adriana is kind and always willing to help.”

When asked if she was interested in any other creative disciplines, Emma replied that “I am interested in art.”Outside of LAMusArt, Emma enjoys reading, rollerskating, riding her bike, and playing Roblox. “I especially like riding my bike to LAMusArt,” she adds.

Emma believes the arts are important “because sometimes they could really help you out by shaping who you are.” She says her experience at LAMusArt has helped her grow: “I feel like it changed me by showing me how to do things that I now love to do. I used to be shy and was worried about performing in front of others, but now I feel confident.”

When she grows up, Emma hopes to become an actor. “Whenever CampMusArt comes along, I always want to be part of the performance. It taught me how not to laugh when something is funny. I also gained confidence and now I can perform in front of a lot of people and not feel nervous,” she says.

She’s proud of herself and everything she can do. And to anyone thinking about joining LAMusArt, Emma replied that “LAMusArt is a great place to learn how to sing, dance, and act.”
