Student Profile: Lucia

Lucia is a lively 10-year-old who joined the LAMusArt community in September 2022. She began her creative journey at the age of 8, starting with art classes. She remembers how she first discovered the school: “My mom was looking for art classes and she found LAMusArt online.” Since then, Lucia’s love for learning has led her to explore her creativity through art, piano, and flute classes.

Lucia isn’t the only one in her family attending LAMusArt. “My sister Caroline is doing violin,” she shared proudly. Her younger brother isn’t quite old enough yet she says, “My brother is still too small for it,” but Lucia is excited for the day he can join in on the new family tradition.

Of all the classes at LAMusArt, piano holds a special place in Lucia’s heart. “My favorite is piano because the teacher is nice and encourages me to be better,” she says. Lucia has a deep admiration for her teachers, and it shines through when she talks about them. “Julian Kim is my favorite teacher at LAMusArt,” she says. In addition to piano lessons, Lucia tried her hand at the flute with Dr. Isaac Lopez,  saying that “The coolest thing was to learn how to blow on the flute.” Her curiosity doesn’t stop there—Lucia is eager to branch out. “Yes, I would like to try trumpet and dancing class,” she adds with enthusiasm. The encouragement and support she’s received have helped her grow in both confidence and skill.

One of Lucia’s standout memories at LAMusArt is a milestone in her artistic journey. “My favorite memory is when I did my first concert,” she shares. It was a special moment for her because “it helped conquer my stage fear.” These performances have become a source of pride for her. “Something that I am really proud of myself is the piano concerts that I have done,” she says.

Outside of music and art, Lucia has plenty of interests that show off her adventurous and caring side. “My hobbies are playing games on my Nintendo and helping other people,” she says. She’s also a sporty girl who loves basketball, dodgeball, capture the flag, football, kickball, and volleyball. On top of that, she has an entrepreneurial side like “selling candy and snacks at my parents job so I could earn money.”

For Lucia, music and art hold a special meaning. “Music and art are important because sometimes you find who you are,” she explains. Her time at LAMusArt has helped her discover new passions and build self-confidence. “It has changed me to like music more and become more confident,” she says.

Lucia may not know exactly what she wants to be when she grows up, but her experiences at LAMusArt are shaping her journey in meaningful ways. “LAMusArt is a fun place where you learn music, art, dance, and drama,” she says, eager to encourage any friend to join. With her energy, creativity, and love of learning, there’s no doubt that Lucia will continue to leave her mark at LAMusArt and beyond.
