12 year-old Alegría S.B. has been a student at LAMusArt since August 2023. She first joined at age 11 for piano lessons with Nicholas Del Valle, and has since added choir and voice to her list of classes. She’s the only member of her family enrolled at LAMusArt, but her creativity makes her feel right at home.
Outside of LAMusArt, Alegría dances with RenArts Conservatory’s after-school program where she’s part of the Wednesday/Friday company. She balances dance with music and performance and continues to grow in both.
Her favorite instructors are her piano teacher Nick and her voice teacher Melina. With their help, Alegría has learned to read sheet music and can now play several songs on piano. Her personal milestone is learning the soundtrack from 2001: A Space Odyssey.
One of her favorite memories so far is from the 2024 Halloween Choir Concert, where she performed This Is Halloween from The Nightmare Before Christmas. She got to do the spooky laugh in the song which became one of the highlights of the performance.
When she’s not at LAMusArt or dance class, Alegría spends time riding horses, sending videos to friends, and playing Dress to Impress. She’s also deeply into pop culture and identifies as a “Swiftie, Livie, Warnerlot, Carpenter, Care Bear, Shield, Gremmie”, and more. “I’m a half-Warsie and a Supernaturalist,” she says.
She believes the arts are important “because they give me more talent,” and says her time at LAMusArt has helped her grow as both a musician and performer. In the future, she hopes to become a financial investor.
When asked how she would convince someone to join LAMusArt, Alegria responded, “You can join the choir at LAMusArt if you’re interested in singing fun songs.” Alegría brings personality, creativity, and ambition to everything she does. Her journey is just beginning, and we’re excited to see where it goes next.
