Student Spotlight: Celine and Claire

ree

Celine and Claire have only just started their journey at LAMusArt, and they’ve already made the school their own. Celine, age 7, began taking classes in June 2024 and currently studies Art, Piano, and Pre-Ballet. She enrolled when she was 6, and her very first classes were Art for the Young and Pre-Ballet. Her connection to LAMusArt actually goes back a generation as her mother took ballet here when she was little. After moving away, her mom didn’t remember the name of the school, but she never forgot the building with the giant front doors and courtyard. One day while driving by, she recognized it immediately.

Since then, Celine has been exploring everything the school has to offer. “My favorite class is Art,” she says. “I love all my teachers because they are so nice and teach me different things.” She’s especially proud of her quiet ballet jumps, a special art project she did at home, and that she recently moved on to a new book in her piano class.

Her favorite memory so far is performing ballet on stage. “I performed at the school and at the King Taco Winter Festival,” she says. “I like to dance on stage.” She now considers herself a piano player and hopes to be a professional artist one day. One lesson she’s taken to heart came from Ms. Diana was that,“Things don’t have to be perfect, things will get messy, and I just have to try my best.”

When asked what she would say to a friend thinking about joining LAMusArt, Celine said:

“The teachers are so nice and you get to make new friends.”

Claire, age 5, also started at LAMusArt in June 2024 and is currently enrolled in Parent and Me Ballet and Early Childhood Music. She started when she was just 3 years old. “My sister Celine takes classes too,” she says. “I want to take piano and art with her.”

Her favorite class right now is Music. She also shared that her favorite teachers are Ms. Tara and Ms. Joan. “They have taught me to sing and dance, and to listen quietly,” she says. One of her favorite memories is dancing and singing with her friends in Ms. Tara’s class.

Outside of LAMusArt, Claire loves mommy-daughter dates and playing with Celine. She believes “the arts are important because they bring joy to our bodies.” When she grows up, she wants to be a doctor for kids. “Ms. Tara and Ms. Joan are always really nice to us, even when we don’t listen,” she says. “That will help me be a good doctor because I’ll know how to talk to kids and always be nice to them.”

When asked what she’s most proud of, Claire said, “I’m most proud of myself.” When asked what she would say to someone interested in LAMusArt, she said, “It’s a really great school and you get to make new friends and everyone is nice and helps you learn.” Oh—and one more fun fact:

“I can whistle with my mouth closed.”
