For almost ten years, Grace C. has been an essential part in shaping the spirit and culture of the school. Beginning her LAMusArt journey at age 8, Grace has fond memories of her first experience with LAMusArt. “I first enrolled at LAMusArt at 8 years old, and in singing and piano class,” she says.
Grace has experienced a great deal of personal and musical development throughout her education at LAMusArt. “My experience at LAMusArt has changed me on how I see music and art in general,” she says. “I see art now as a message and not just a pretty piece.” One of her most memorable experiences was her first performance on stage. “My favorite memory at LAMusArt is my first performance. It was my first time ever performing in front of a large audience. Even it being my first time, it was exciting for me.”
Grace has explored a variety of classes throughout her education at LAMusArt. “The classes I’ve taken at LAMusArt are singing, piano, mariachi, and strings.” She takes particular pride in her musical growth, adding, “What I am most proud of is that I am able to play instruments I never thought I would be able to play.”
Even with so many disciplines under her belt, one class rises above the rest, as she explains that, ”My favorite class is piano.” Reflecting on her time in class with her favorite instructor, Brendan White, she says, “An important thing they’ve taught me is that practice makes perfect.”
Outside of her artistic pursuits, Grace is also active in sports. “Outside of the arts, I enjoy playing sports, such as volleyball,” she shares. She can also be found volunteering at LAMusArt events serving as an usher and offering general support. Her willingness to help makes her an invaluable team player in all fields she steps into.
Looking towards her future, Grace aspires to help others when she grows older. She says that, “When I grow up, I want to be someone who helps others, someone in the medical field.” She describes how her artistic education benefits her beyond music. “By learning music, I can learn a way to stay calm, and whenever I am having a tough time, I can turn to music to help me feel less stress.”
For Grace, the arts are a crucial part of her life. “I think the arts are important because it is a way of expressing emotions and words that I am not able to form myself.” Her advice for new students is full of enthusiasm: “You get to learn a lot of new things. They have good teachers and cool staff here.” She adds, “I really enjoy the years I have spent at LAMusArt.”
With her hard work and enthusiasm, she brings to every subject she studies, Grace continues to develop a foundation that will carry her into any path she takes.
