Student Profile: Isabella and Amy

Sisters Amy and Isabella are proof that creativity runs in the family. These two young artists have been growing, learning, and thriving at LAMusArt—each with her own voice, style, and story.

Amy, 8, first joined LAMusArt in February 2022 when she was just 5 years old. Her mom was searching for an activity that matched her passion for drawing and creativity, and LAMusArt seemed like the perfect fit. Two years later her little sister Isabella followed in her footsteps. She enrolled in the Parent & Me Ballet class at age 4 after seeing how much Amy loved the school. Now, the sisters share classes like Latin Dance and Art for the Young!

Together, they’ve taken quite list of disciplines:

Amy: Ballet, Art, Early Childhood Music, Latin Dance, Flamenco, Voice

Isabella: Parent & Me Ballet, Pre-Ballet, Art, Latin Dance, Flamenco

When asked about their favorite classes, Isabella answered Art. “We do a lot of activities that are fun,” she says. She’s also excited to explore music next, with dreams of taking voice lessons and learning to play the ukulele.

Amy, on the other hand, has a big passion for singing. “My favorite teacher is Ms. Tara. She taught me how to sing better, and reach my singing goals,” she says. “She taught me that anything can be achieved with practice and consistency.”

One of Isabella’s favorite memories is dressing up as a ladybug for her first dance recital—an exciting moment made even more special by performing in front of her family. Amy’s favorite memory was celebrating LAMusArt’s 80th birthday. “It felt very special to celebrate the school,” she says. “I had no idea it had been open for so long!”

Outside of the arts, these two love to stay busy. They love weekends with their family and their three dogs: April, Khaki, and Lilo. Both girls play baseball in the spring and are proud members of their local Girl Scout Troop. Isabella says she loves to "chill at home," while Amy spends time watching drawing tutorials on YouTube and sketching in her notebook.

Both girls believe deeply in the importance of the arts. “They help express yourself and let you learn new things,” Isabella says. Amy agrees as she expresses that the “Arts help you express yourself and be creative.” Through their time at LAMusArt, they’ve each gained more confidence, new skills, and a deeper love for the arts.

Isabella, who dreams of becoming a singer, says, “Dance classes have helped me develop rhythm and soon voice lessons will help me develop my singing skills.” Amy hopes to be both an artist and a singer one day and has already taken steps in that direction with multiple voice recitals under her belt. “I’m most proud of the fact that I was able to sing in front of a lot of people,” she shares.

When asked what they would say to someone thinking about joining LAMusArt, Isabella puts it simply: “Everyone is very nice and supportive. This school is filled with great teachers who will help you.” Amy adds, “It will change your life the way it changed mine. You’ll gain confidence and be courageous.” She also added a thank-you to her instructors, saying, “Thank you to all of my teachers who have helped me improve and changed my life. Shoutout to Mr. Arturo, Ms. Tara, Ms. Joan, Ms. Tiana, Ms. Diana, and Mr. Ros who is in college.” These two sisters exemplify the vast possibilities that exist within the arts and in believing in yourself.
