Jamie P., 13, has been part of the LAMusArt community since 2021, beginning her creative journey at eight years old in ballet. “I started Ballet at 8 years old,” she shares. Jamie discovered LAMusArt through her neighborhood and quickly found herself drawn to the School’s creative environment. “I found LAMusArt because it’s a part of my neighborhood and I was interested in doing dance.”

Since joining LAMusArt, Jamie has explored Ballet, Piano, and Drama, discovering a love for performance and creative expression along the way. “I think my favorite class so far would be Drama because of all the new friends I have made in that class,” she says. Although she says she does not have one favorite teacher, Jamie reflects that “the most important thing they taught me is to be myself through everything, whether it be through dance, music or through acting.”

One of Jamie’s favorite memories at LAMusArt comes from sharing meaningful moments with her classmates before a performance. “My favorite memory at LAMusArt would be when I got to exchange gifts with my friends before our play,” she says. “I had so much fun just spending time with my friends before going on stage.”

Outside of the arts, Jamie enjoys “listening to music, baking, and making bracelets and jewelry for my friends.” She believes the arts are important because “there’s so much emotion, creativity and hard work being put into the arts,” adding that “there’s so many things to learn from them and I think it’s really beautiful.”

Jamie says her experience at LAMusArt has helped her become “more outgoing and willing to try new things.” Looking ahead, she hopes to become “an actress or voice actress,” explaining that her classes are helping her gain confidence performing in front of others while also learning choreography, scripts, and piano pieces. She is especially proud of “the progress I’ve made in each of my classes,” adding, “I think I have improved a lot and I’ve learned a lot of new things.”

For anyone considering LAMusArt, Jamie says, “If I could convince someone else to come to LAMusArt, I’d tell them about the tons of classes to choose from and the amazing teachers and staff who really make you feel like part of the community. You’d always feel welcomed and included at this school. Joining the school would be a great opportunity to meet new friends who have similar interests as you.”
