Mila O., eight, has been part of the LAMusArt community since December 2023. She first walked through our doors at just six years old beginning her journey with piano lessons. For Mila, LAMusArt has always felt like home. "My aunt Angie works there," she shares, adding that she has "3 cousins who also take classes there." From day one, she has been surrounded by family.
Since joining, Mila has taken Art and Piano lessons with art holding a special place in her heart. "Art is so far my favorite class," she says. But her curiosity doesn't stop there. "I am interested in taking ballet and violin classes," she adds. At school, Mila also takes music and theater, proof that her love for the arts follows her everywhere.
Two teachers have shaped Mila's experience at the School in meaningful ways. "Ms. Diana and Ms. Jasmin are my favorite teachers," she shares. "Ms. Diana has taught me different art forms," and "Ms. Jasmin has taught me how to play the black keys." Her favorite memory at LAMusArt came from the musical stage: "My favorite memory is when I got to play 'The Juggler' in one of my piano recitals," she says.
Outside of the arts, Mila loves to sing, has a love for math, enjoys playing with her Barbie dolls, and treasures time with her cousins and parents. She believes the arts carry real importance. "Arts are important because you learn new strategies. Arts also help you feel confident." She has also embraced one of music's greatest lessons, "I learn that practicing and practicing can make you better at things."
Looking ahead, Mila's dream is clear. "I want to be a singer when I grow up. I want to be like Taylor Swift. She sings and plays the piano." Each week brings her closer. "I am proud that I am learning new things every week in my piano and art class." And to anyone considering joining, Mila says it simply: "You should go to LAMusArt because you can learn new arts. The teachers are nice and they will help you when you are struggling. Plus, you can make new friends."
