Nadia S., 15, has woven herself into the fabric of LAMusArt as a pianist and singer. She first enrolled at age 12 for private piano lessons after she found out about the LAMusArt in her school’s weekly email. Since then, she’s added voice lessons and advanced choir to her schedule, with voice quickly becoming her favorite. “My favorite teacher is Ms. Tara,” Nadia says. “She taught me that I am capable of things that seem out of reach and to never give up on my goals.”
Nadia’s favorite memory was performing with the advanced choir for the very first time. “I loved spending time singing and connecting with the other choir ensembles,” she shared. “They became my best LAMusArt friends.” That sense of connection formed through musical camaraderie defines the LAMusArt experience for students like Nadia.
Outside of LAMusArt, Nadia is just as busy. She’s on her school’s pep squad, where she cheers and dances, and she also leads club activities, reads novels, and volunteers at Huntington Memorial Hospital.
She believes the arts are essential because of the way they bring people together. “The arts are important because they create connections between artists and help people express emotions of all kinds through creative ways,” she says. That outlook has fueled her own growth: “LAMusArt has helped me become more confident both musically and as a person. My classes also helped me further pursue my passion for singing and performing.”
Looking towards her future, Nadia expects to weave the lessons LAMusArt’s taught her with her academic interests.. “I hope to major in a STEM field and minor in theater arts,” she explains. “What I’ve learned at LAMusArt will help me have perseverance and dedication when facing challenges.”
She’s proud of how far she’s come and how much effort she’s put into her passions. And if you ask her what makes LAMusArt special, she will happily tell you that, “The teachers and students are like no other. Everyone here is very supportive, understanding, and welcoming.”
As for her final message, she wanted to relay this message: “I hope more kids come to LAMusArt and grow as artists.”
