On Sunday June 12, 2016, the Los Angeles Music and Art School (LAMusArt), together with the Young Professionals Advisory Board (YPAB), presented Summer Soirée, an afternoon with friends and donors dedicated to raising awareness and support for LAMusArt programs and students.
Summer Soirée, hosted in Culver City at Rush Street’s lavish upstairs lounge and outdoor patio space, featured a live DJ, drinks, food, opportunity drawing, and ample time to mingle amongst all attendees.
Manuel Prieto, LAMusArt Executive Director, addressed guests and thanked them for their contributions, highlighting the importance of community arts programs as a creative outlet for young people to develop and engage in positive, year-round collaborative projects.
In fact, members of the YPAB dedicate their efforts to help fund the tuition-free Choir Program at LAMusArt which, prior to the YPAB’s involvement, was discontinued due to limited funding. Now, thanks to their efforts, the Choir Program runs year-round and serves qualifying local area students with ensemble music instruction and performance opportunities.
The YPAB also embodies the millennial sentiment of the interest to enact change and create impact in our local communities. Members of the YPAB represent a diverse group of professionals in the early-to-mid stages of their careers who, through their involvement with LAMusArt, are gaining transferable skills that will aid them as future board members of other organizations.
Although fundraising can prove to be a monumental task, the youthfulness of the YPAB adds an element of high energy and fun. Infusing the afternoon with his charming and charismatic personality, YPAB Events Chair, Richard Graham, emceed the opportunity drawing with help by event guest, Marguerite Bowen, who added her own flair and spunk. Among the winning items were gift certificates to Five Guys Burger and Fries, Press Brothers Juicery, and Soothe Massage.
As Graham stated throughout the opportunity drawing, “whether you win an item or not, you’re all winners today because you helped a child have access to the arts.” Summer Soirée was demonstrative of the level of impact one’s donation or participation can have on a community in need.
The Young Professionals Advisory Board (YPAB) is LAMusArt’s newest fundraising body comprised of 15 members ages 24 to 40 who have chosen to partner with our organization to help support our initiatives to provide accessible and affordable arts education programs for the community of East Los Angeles.
