Joan Fricke

Joan H. P. Fricke is a first-generation, multidisciplinary, LA-based artist. She is currently the Assistant Choreographer with B. Dunn Movement, and dances with immersive dance-theatre creators, Iris Company. Joan has most recently worked with Acts of Matter, Carlon, A. Ordaz Dance, and Bryn Cohn + Artists, having toured several productions. Aside from fellow independent LA artists, Joan's stage credits include Zoe Scofield, Troy Ogilvie, Yuanyuan Wang, Don Martin, Jiří Kylián, and Hans Van Manen.
As a maker, Joan’s choreographic works have been presented by various LA venues, and include collaborations with Grammy-Award winning musician and composer, Alex Wand, and composer Jaco Wong of C3LA Choir. She uses voice and choreography to investigate the nonlinear existence of time and space.
On screen, Joan can be seen in videos for artists such as Solange, Jessie Ware, Fyohna, Bella Thorne, and James Benton among others performing choreography by Daisha Graf, Eric Schloesser, Gerard & Kelly, and herself. She has also landed spots on commercials, which she additionally assisted in choreographing.
Outside of dance and performance, Joan is the Site Author and Website Administrator for B. Dunn Movement.
Joan teaches ballet and contemporary throughout the greater Los Angeles area. She attended LACHSA, and is an associate alumni of the Boston Conservatory. She holds a BFA in Dance Performance & Choreography from California Institute of the Arts, where she was nominated for the Princess Grace Award. Joan additionally studied Dance Pedagogy under renowned Dance Science Researcher and Professor, Donna Krasnow. She is certified in both Level 1 and 2 of C-I Training™ (Conditioning-with-Imagery Training™), which she continues to implement in her teaching. joanhollypadeo.com
