Story and Song, Style and Swing in the Second Season of LAMusArt Live!

LAMusArt's monthly performances return May 22nd with Playmaking: Part 1 as part of LAMusArt Live! Season 2. Witness 5 brand new plays come to life as the first of two culminating performances for the seasonal playwriting program Playmaking. Playmaking engages students ages 9 – 11 in the fundamentals of playwriting over the course of 10 weeks. On May 22 and June 26, a cast of twenty professional actors perform these original works.

LAMusArt Live! season one first premiered at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in response to the shutdown of the live performances and concerts in which LAMusArt students and community would traditionally come together and celebrate their success as young artists. These LAMusArt Live performances explored the work of LA-based artists from an array of styles and genres such as Latin-Jazz fusion, Flamenco Dance, Mariachi and more. Now, LAMusArt's students take the LAMusArt Live! stage in their Spring Recital which airs June 5th. Call in the whole family to enjoy the show at 8PM PDT.

Keep your month of July full of Americana nostalgia and join the Fabulous Esquires Big Band on July 24. The Esquires will share the sounds of the classic swing era in a 14-piece swing orchestra with arrangements by Benny Goodman, Count Basie and more. In the spirit of high energy, but in a new genre to LAMusArt Live!, LA-favorite Versa Style performs original choreography for a hot summer night of hip hop inspiration on August 28.

Esther Rayo performs from Granados' "Colección de Tonadillas"

Tune in on September 25 for the premiere of the Eastside Music Project, a special arrangement by Dr. Isaac Lopez, made possible by the California Arts Council. Take a musical trip down the streets of LA's Eastside in this medley of Latin-inspired Los Angeles-based music from 1940 to today. On October 23, watch "Cabaret: Musical Theater & Pop Night" for an intimate concert featuring Southern California’s best voices celebrating music from the past and present from composers such as Jason Robert Brown, Alan Menken and Jonathan Larson. Closing the season November 20th with a complete set in Spanish, join classical soprano Esther Renee Rayo as she takes us on a classical musical journey through the Spanish works such as “Canciones Clásicas Españolas” by Fernando Obradors and Enrique Granados’ “Colección de Tonadillas”.

Season 2 performances are held every third Saturday at 8PM, so RSVP today to get your reminders and enjoy LAMusArt Live!
